Os Green Day fundaram em 2018, num projecto paralelo, uma banda de covers. Os The Coverups consistem no vocalista Billie Joe Armstrong, o baixista Mike Dirnt e outros músicos do círculo dos Green Day, incluindo um guitarrista de digressão, um engenheiro de som e o tour manager, entre outros.
Poucos dias antes de subiram ao palco do festival Coachella, os Coverups tocaram num pequeno bar chamado Pappy & Harriet’s, e que fica em Pioneertown na Califórnia. Deram um concerto de luxo com 31 covers de músicas de bandas e artistas como os Ramones, David Bowie, The Strokes, Led Zeppelin, The Clash, The Replacements e muito mais.
